Woman held for human trafficking case in Tripura

Agartala: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, authorities in Agartala have detained a woman from Matinagar, a village on the border of West District, for her alleged involvement in human trafficking cases.

Tapas Das, the Officer-In-Charge of the Government Railway Police Station, informed reporters that the arrest followed an investigation into a case filed with the Government Railway Police on March 23, which led to the apprehension of six Bangladeshi nationals.

“During our inquiries, we uncovered the involvement of one Parul Akhter from Matinagar in aiding these six Bangladeshi nationals to enter India illegally. Despite evading capture, we received information yesterday suggesting her return home. Consequently, in collaboration with Tripura Police and BSF, we conducted an operation in the early hours of Tuesday, leading to her detention. Akhter allegedly facilitated the illegal crossing of Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas across the international border, offering them shelter and sustenance. Her residence is located in close proximity to the border fence. Interrogations have commenced,” Das stated.

Recent efforts by GRP, in conjunction with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), have resulted in the detention of over 50 Bangladeshi nationals at Agartala Railway Station. These individuals were intercepted while attempting to enter India clandestinely, with destinations spanning Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Gujarat, and other locations in pursuit of employment opportunities.
