Guwahati: At a recent election rally held in Sohra, VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit levelled allegations of a conspiracy between the BJP-led central government and the NPP-led MDA government to withhold the Inner Line Permit (ILP) from Meghalaya.

Basaiawmoit highlighted the alteration made by the Centre to the Eastern Bengal Frontier Regulation, 1873, where the terms "Khasi" and "Jaintia" were replaced with "State of Manipur," indicating a collusive understanding between the two governing bodies.

Questioning the silence of the MDA government regarding the amendment, Basaiawmoit emphasized that their lack of opposition to the deletion of "Khasi" and "Jaintia" from the Regulation contradicts their purported commitment to implementing ILP in the state.

VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh echoed this sentiment, citing the past opposition of the Congress-led MUA government and the current Congress MP, Vincent H Pala, against ILP.

Myrboh further criticized the Assembly's resolution urging the Centre to implement ILP in Meghalaya, labelling it as a mere facade to deceive the public.

He asserted that the resolution serves as a tool for the state government to shift blame onto the Centre when questioned about the status of the ILP demand in Meghalaya.
