According to reports, at least four people have been killed and over 100 policemen sustained injuries in clashes that broke out.

On Thursday (February 09) evening, a city-wide curfew was imposed in Haldwani town of Uttarakhand and authorized shoot-at-sight orders.

Hundreds of protesters and police personnel were injured in the clashes which broke out on Thursday (February 09) evening.

Protesters set fire to vehicles and pelted stones and the police fired tear gas at them.

The district had witnessed widespread protests in January last year after more than 50,000 people, mostly Muslims, were served eviction notice alleging they were illegally living on land owned by the Indian Railways.

The demolitions were later stayed by the Supreme Court.
