Guwahati: The United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) has taken responsibility for the ambush on Assam Rifles vehicles in Assam’s Tinsukia on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred at Tinsukia’s Namdang; which is on Changlang Road in Margherita.

ULFA-I in an email statement has claimed that it was an attack conducted by them and claimed that many personnel of Assam Rifles were injured and a number of their vehicles were harmed during the attack.

The email also claimed that the injured Assam Rifles personnel were airlifted for treatment immediately after the ambush.

Earlier, Tinsukia Superintendent of Police Abhijit Gurav confirmed the ambush.

“Right now, I can’t say anything about the incident because no concrete detail is available,” he said.

“The militant groups very easily sneaked into the Indian territory through Arunachal Pradesh to carry out subversive activities. Arunachal Pradesh shares international boundary with Myanmar and China. The militant group took advantage of the rough terrain to sneak into India,” a police official said.

He said, “Right now we cannot ascertain which militant groups have carried out the attack. After proper investigation, we can confirm about the group involved in the attack on Assam Rifles vehicle.”
