UGC NET re-examination to be held online as computer-based test

New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the UGC NET re-examination will be conducted online as a computer-based test (CBT), following the cancellation of the pen-and-paper mode exam held on June 18.

The Education Ministry had cancelled the exam due to concerns over the integrity of the test, citing a question paper leak on the darknet.

According to the revised schedule, the UGC NET June 2024 Cycle examination will be held in multiple shifts between August 21 and September 4, following the same pattern as previous exams.

This marks a return to the CBT mode, which was deviated from earlier this year when the NTA announced a pen-and-paper mode exam.

The UGC NET exam is conducted for assistant professorship, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), and PhD admissions.

The registration and participation of candidates in the UGC NET examination saw a significant increase for the CBT edition, with 11,21,225 candidates applying for the June exam, compared to 9,45,872 for the December 2023 exam.

The June exam saw an overall attendance of around 81%, up from 73.6% in December.

The cancellation of the exam was announced by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who stated that a question paper of the test was leaked on the darknet, compromising the integrity of the exam.

The NTA has assured that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the re-examination.
