DIMAPUR: Two women from.Assam have been arrested by security agencies in Dimapur district of Nagaland for possession of a total of 79 Red Collared Doves.

The two women were arrested during a routine market raid on May 07 at Lengrijan Tuesday Bazar in Dimapur, Nagaland.

The arrests were made by the Wildlife Crime Control Unit of the Wildlife Division Dimapur.

A press release by the Wildlife Division, Dimapur, stated that the crime unit rescued 35 and 44 live Red Collared Doves from Rohila Ronghangpi (42 years) and Meena Enghipi (50 years) respectively, both permanent residents of Monsing Teron Village, Dillai, Assam.

The Wildlife Crime Control Unit, Wildlife Division Dimapur, has detained both individuals and will proceed according to the appropriate section of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

Meanwhile, the Wildlife Division, Dimapur, has urged the public to refrain from purchasing, trading, or selling wild animals, birds, bushmeat, wildlife articles, or trophies.

It cautioned that creating or sharing content related to hunting or trapping of wild animals and birds on social media platforms constitutes a serious offense and could result in punishment under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
