Union Minister seeks NHIDCL report on 'deplorable' condition of alternative Tripura highway
Guwahati: Union Minister for Tribal Welfare Jual Oram has requested a detailed report from the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) on the deplorable condition of an alternative national highway in Tripura.
The highway, linking Agartala to Kumarghat through Khowai and Kamalpur, was renovated by NHIDCL just a year ago, but locals say many stretches have become extremely unsafe.
The issue drew attention after Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha flagged it with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in July, urging prompt action.
Oram, who arrived in Tripura on Tuesday and visited Kailashahar in Unakoti district, met with senior officials and ministers to review the progress of centrally sponsored projects.
During the meeting, Unakoti District Magistrate Tamal Majumder highlighted the highway’s rapid deterioration and informed the minister about its current state.
The Union Minister expressed concern and has asked NHIDCL to submit a formal report on the highway’s maintenance.
At the same time, he praised the implementation of various central government schemes, including Tribal Welfare initiatives, and emphasized the need for their timely completion.
