Agartala: The Youth Tipra Federation (YTF), the youth wing of the Tipra Motha Party, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the state government demanding action against Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma.

Addressing the media persons at Agartala hours after the symbolic “DM office shut down” protest at Udaipur on Tuesday, YTF President Suraj Debbarma warned of statewide agitation if the government failed to act.

“We are giving seven days for the government to take action. If not, we will launch massive protests that could resemble a total lockdown,” he said.

He noted, "Our activists will make sure that the whole state goes under complete lockdown like we witnessed during the pandemic period," when asked about the nature of the protest.

Debbarma criticized Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for what he termed a “diplomatic response” on the issue.

“The Chief Minister tried to brand the deliberate insult of the DM as a communication gap. We heard what the CM said. We want to ask him as to why he can't transfer the DM,” he added.

He urged the CM to transfer the DM, warning that the matter was not just administrative but tied to the sentiments of “lakhs of people.”

Earlier in the day, thousands of YTF activists staged a blockade outside the DM office in Gomati. The protest escalated as demonstrators locked the main entrance, demanding immediate removal of the official.

SP of Gomati District Namit Pathak said, “The police allowed the protestors to put a lock on the entrance of the DM office to tackle the situation peacefully.”

Officials of the District Magistrate's office later broke the lock in the presence of police.
