Tripura: Woman arrested near Teliamura station with brown sugar worth Rs 7 lakh

Guwahati: A woman was arrested on Thursday evening near Teliamura railway station in Tripura's Khowai District after police seized brown sugar worth over Rs 7 lakh.

The arrest has caused a stir in the local community.

According to Jayanta Dey, Officer-in-Charge of Teliamura Police Station, the operation was based on specific intelligence about rising drug activity in the Trisha Bari area near the station.

“Following the tip-off, our team carried out a targeted raid. The woman was seen acting suspiciously, and upon searching her, a large quantity of brown sugar was recovered. She was taken into custody following legal procedures,” said the OC.

Police sources confirmed that the woman is from Khayerpur, and her parental home is in Suryamaninagar, Agartala, West District.

Authorities stated that a detailed investigation is ongoing, and all legal procedures are being strictly followed.
