Tripura to host Saras Mela with 400 stalls showcasing SHG enterprises

Agartala: Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) is preparing to host a large-scale edition of the Saras Mela, set to begin on December 13 at Hapania Ground in Agartala.

The fair will showcase products from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across Tripura and several other states, highlighting a wide range of local enterprises and women-led ventures.

Officials said the event will feature 400 stalls and claimed to be its biggest lineup so far. Of these, 335 stalls will be run by SHG entrepreneurs, while 65 will be allotted to departments such as Police, Health & Family Welfare and Press. Organizers said the arrangement aims to boost visibility and support for grassroots businesses.

A TRLM spokesperson said, “This year, 335 stalls will be dedicated to SHG didis, and 65 stalls will be reserved for various line departments.” The statement reflects the event’s focus on promoting rural entrepreneurship while ensuring institutional participation.

Earlier in the day, TRLM CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma, along with the Rural Development SDO and other officials, inspected the Hapania venue to review preparations and ensure smooth logistical arrangements.

To attract more visitors, TRLM will install eight decorative gates across Agartala and put up hundreds of promotional posters in all districts.

The mission also announced plans for the first-ever Food Saras Fair in January 2026. The upcoming edition will feature thousands of SHGs dealing exclusively in food products, marking a major expansion of the Saras platform and new opportunities for rural entrepreneurs.
