Guwahati: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday announced that the state has started the process of hiring 1,733 teachers across multiple categories to strengthen the education sector.

Addressing a government event, he said the Education Department has already appointed 6,998 teachers and related staff since the BJP came to power in 2018.

Countering claims that the government has failed to create employment, Saha said various departments have recruited 20,181 unemployed youths over the past six years.

He added that another 5,000 individuals had been engaged on a contractual basis to support government operations.

Recruitment for the new batch of 1,733 teaching positions is already underway, he confirmed.

According to him, these figures reflect the government's commitment to tackling unemployment. “We will not compromise on recruitment in the health, family welfare, or education sectors,” the chief minister said.

Saha stressed that the current administration follows a transparent recruitment policy. He asserted that no one can secure a government job through recommendations, something he said was prevalent under previous governments.

All appointments made since the BJP took office, he added, have followed a fair and transparent process.

He further revealed that the government is drafting a new transparent transfer policy, particularly for medical professionals.

Under the existing rule, an MBBS doctor must complete three years of service in a rural hospital to qualify for MD or MS studies.

The government now plans to introduce a marking system for postgraduate aspirants based on their service in rural areas.
