According to the DGP, total crimes reported in 2025 stood at 3,698, marking a decline of 8.3% compared to 4,033 cases in 2024.

“Property-related offences, which include dacoity, robbery, burglary, and theft, registered a drop of 16.04%, with 293 cases reported in 2025 against 349 in the preceding year. Murder cases declined by 18.10%, with 95 cases registered in 2025 compared to 116 in 2024. Incidents of hurt and assault, considered a key parameter of law and order, fell by 14.23%, from 815 cases in 2024 to 699 in 2025. Rioting-related cases also saw a reduction of 26%, with 17 cases reported this year against 23 last year,” he said.

Crimes against women registered a fall of 8.14%, with 665 cases reported in 2025 compared to 724 in 2024, he added.

Highlighting measures to curb road traffic accidents (RTA), he said, “A special drive on road traffic awareness and enforcement led to an 8.82% reduction in road traffic accidents. A total of 520 accident cases were reported in 2025, down from 575 in 2024. Fatalities due to road accidents declined by 14.55%, with 182 deaths recorded this year against 213 last year.”

Further breaking down RTA figures, he said Tripura Police’s analysis revealed that nearly 67% of accident-related deaths involved victims aged 18 to 45 years. “This is the most crucial age group in a human being's life. In this productive phase, they contribute to their families as well as the GDP. This is why RTAs are considered a significant social loss. As many as 345 fatal accident cases were registered in 2025 compared to 365 in 2024, while the number of injured fell from 622 last year to 606 this year.”

Comparing national data, the DGP said, “We have national data on road traffic accidents up to 2023. In 2023, the national average of accidents per lakh population was 34.6. Tripura had an average of 13.9 in 2023, which reduced to 12.5 in 2025. In terms of per 10,000 vehicles, Tripura recorded 8.5 accidents against the national average of 11.4 in 2023, which further fell to 6 per 10,000 vehicles in 2025.”

The number of deaths per lakh population in Tripura stood at 4.7, almost one-third of the national average of 12.5, he added.

“Despite an 8% increase in registered vehicles, which rose from 8.11 lakh to 8.67 lakh, the state managed to reduce accident figures,” he said.

On the drive against narcotic substances, the DGP said enforcement in NDPS cases recorded an 11% increase. “We registered 522 cases in 2025 compared to 470 in 2024. Recovery of dry ganja rose by 14%, cough syrup bottles by 145%, and yaba tablets by 26.37%. Seizures of nurseries and plants witnessed a 95% hike, with over 16 crore plants and saplings seized. The total value of narcotics seized and destroyed rose sharply from Rs 849 crore in 2024 to Rs 1,636 crore in 2025, a 92% increase,” said the DGP.

Traffic enforcement also intensified, with prosecution reports under road traffic laws rising by 109%, from 55,696 in 2024 to 1,16,158 in 2025. Fine collection increased from Rs 19.1 crore to Rs 20.21 crore, while driving licence suspensions rose from 10,890 to 17,890.

“Prosecution reports related to gambling and petty offences increased significantly, with repeat offenders identified and bound down. Total prosecution reports rose from 1,06,873 in 2024 to 2,40,258 in 2025,” he noted, highlighting preventive action against habitual offenders.

On action against militant groups, he said, “Members of all underground outfits have joined mainstream life and quit violence. In North Tripura, some efforts were made to form a group, but these were dealt with firmly. Six persons were arrested so far for links with proscribed outfits. We also seized explosives on the nights of August 14 and 15 in connection with underground activities.”

Apart from this, 628 lost mobile phones were recovered and returned to their rightful owners.

He added that 45 minors and adults trafficked to Arunachal Pradesh were rescued and brought back, while 20 kidnapped girls were recovered and 23 accused arrested through close inter-state coordination.

The conviction rate in Tripura currently stands at around 31%, which, though not the best, is higher than in other Northeastern states, including Assam, where the conviction rate is reported at 25%.

Replying to a query on illegal infiltration, the DGP said, “As many as 202 cases were registered in connection with illegal infiltration, resulting in 578 arrests. Of these, 393 were Bangladeshi nationals, 12 were Rohingya migrants, and 68 were identified with other nationalities. Additionally, 120 border touts were arrested. Nearly 25% of those arrested were touts.”
