Agartala: Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Monday called upon party workers in Tripura to refrain from violence and instead document and report any alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the ongoing election period.

In a social media address, Debbarma emphasised that elections are temporary, but social harmony endures, cautioning that confrontations among political supporters only deepen divisions within communities. He noted that recent incidents of unrest in parts of the state were damaging Tripura’s public image.

His remarks came against the backdrop of reported clashes involving political workers. Several BJP supporters, including a candidate from an ADC constituency, were reportedly injured, while a state minister allegedly faced an attack at a party worker’s residence a day earlier.

Referring to complaints received from his party cadre, Debbarma alleged attempts by a rival political group to influence voters through inducements. He urged workers not to engage directly in confrontation but to gather evidence of such activities.

“If there are violations of the MCC, record them and inform the authorities. Let the law take its course,” he said, appealing to voters across party lines to exercise their franchise freely and without intimidation.

Expressing confidence in law enforcement, Debbarma said he expected Tripura Police to act impartially on the basis of evidence, irrespective of political affiliations. He added that any proven electoral malpractice should be dealt with strictly under the law.
