Agartala: Tripura Police, in joint operations with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF), apprehended two women and seized contraband valued at over Rs 1.6 crore on Tuesday.

In the first operation, police in West Tripura district acted on a tip-off to raid the residence of Gouri Debnath in Fultali, a border area.

Officers recovered seven pouches containing 100 grams of brown sugar, estimated to be worth Rs 6 lakh. Gouri's husband, Krishna Debnath, is already implicated in a narcotics case.

Simultaneously, North Tripura district police arrested Jahanara Begum at Dharmanagar railway station while she was traveling from Silchar to Agartala.

A search revealed approximately 20,000 Yaba tablets, valued at around Rs 1 crore, concealed in her possession.

Both women are in police custody and will be produced in court.
