Tripura police arrests Bihar man with ganja worth Rs 25 lakh
Agartala: The Tripura police have arrested a Bihar resident and seized ganja (cannabis) valued at Rs 25 lakh at Kumarghat area of Unakoti district.
According to the officer-in-charge of Kumarghat police station, they received a tip-off about a truck carrying a large quantity of ganja traveling from Agartala in Tripura towards Assam.
"Late Sunday evening, acting on the secret information, we set up a checkpoint on the national highway and intercepted the truck. During the search, we discovered a hidden compartment containing 50 packets of cannabis, weighing a total of 515 kg. The black market value of the seized cannabis is estimated to be around Rs 25 lakh," the officer said.
The driver of the truck, identified as Sourab Trivedi from Bihar, was arrested by Tripura police.
A case under relevant sections of the NDPS act has been registered in connection with this incident.
