Agartala: In a bid move to expedite implementation of development projects in Tripura, the state's planning and coordination minister, Pranajit Singha Roy, inaugurated the project monitoring unit (PMU) on Tuesday (June 25).

This initiative aims to streamline the approval process for projects under various central schemes and will act as a hub of innovation, providing strategic advice to state departments on future projects.

The PMU, established with an investment of approximately Rs 15 crore for a three-year period, was officially launched by Tripura minister Pranajit Singha Roy, who also serves as the state's finance minister.

Following an e-tender process, the global consulting firm Ernst & Young LLP (EY) was selected to lead the project, appointing 14 sector experts to work within the Tripura planning and coordination department.

Tripura minister Singha Roy elaborated on the PMU's objectives, stating that the team of 14 experts will focus on developing concept notes, detailed project reports (DPRs), and other crucial project formulation documents across a range of key sectors.

These sectors include affordable housing, warehousing and logistics, industrial infrastructure, roads and highways, urban transport (mass transit), higher and vocational education, residential and technical schools, health and medical sectors, irrigation, power, tourism and eco-tourism, agri-business and food processing, as well as procurement and contract management.

Roy stated, "We have provided an official workspace for the team and held detailed discussions regarding their operational methodologies. With numerous development schemes from both the Government of India and the state government each financial year, timely completion is crucial. Therefore, we decided to establish this PMU for a three-year term to ensure our projects are executed efficiently and effectively."
