Guwahati: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday expressed hope that the issues outlined in the tripartite Tiprasa Accord would soon be addressed, following his recent meeting with Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma.

The Tiprasa Accord, signed in March 2024 by the Centre, the Tripura government, and Tipra Motha, aims to resolve matters concerning land rights, customary laws, language, socio-economic, and political rights of tribal communities in the state.

While it was initially expected to be implemented within six months, little progress has been made in the 20 months since its signing.

Speaking to reporters, CM Saha said, “I have seen him (Pradyot Kishore) make a statement after yesterday’s meeting. I will reiterate the same… discussions were held on the tripartite agreement signed in Delhi. I hope the issues highlighted by the Tiprasa Accord will be resolved soon.”

When asked about the recent refusal by state police to grant permission for a Tipra Motha rally at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala, Saha said the rally had been postponed and that the party could best comment on the matter.

Pradyot Kishore, on Friday, described his meeting with the chief minister as a “welcome step” toward development. The meeting came three days after he announced a pan-regional forum aimed at uniting regional parties across the Northeast.

At the press conference for the forum, Pradyot Kishore was joined by Meghalaya’s National People’s Party (NPP) leader Conrad Sangma and others.

Both Tipra Motha and NPP are allies of the BJP and part of the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA).

Meanwhile, Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and former minister Sudip Roy Barman commented on the meeting, saying that “real solutions” to the Tiprasa Accord must come from Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the central government.
