AGARTALA: The Tripura government has sent in motion an ambitious plan to boost forest coverage in the state.

This was informed by Tripura forest minister Animesh Deb Barma on Monday (May 06).

Tripura forest minister Animesh Deb Barma informed that as many as five lakh saplings would be planted in a single day in the state as part of this initiative.

Currently, the forest coverage in Tripura stands at 66 percent.

Meanwhile, amidst a scorching heatwave engulfing the state, the Tripura forest department sees tree plantation as a vital strategy in combating global warming.

“The forest department has decided to plant five lakh saplings to bolster the state's forest coverage,” Tripura forest minister Animesh Deb Barma told PTI.

The Tripura forest department has outlined a phased approach for this massive plantation campaign.

The goal of planting five lakh saplings in a day is scheduled for the first week of July, although the exact date remains unspecified.

“We are committed to ensure survival of these saplings post-plantation. Measures will be implemented to nurture the newly planted saplings, thereby expanding the forest coverage across the state,” he emphasized.
