Tripura floods: Death toll rises to 10

AGARTALA: The flood situation in Tripura has worsened, with the death toll due to the deluge rising to 10.

Moreover, over 34,000 people have been affected by the floods in the state and are taking shelter in relief camps.

Earlier on Wednesday, flood waters breached the residence of Tripura chief minister Manik Saha, who had to be evacuated by NDRF personnel.

The Tripura chief minister also spoke to union home minister Amit Shah and apprised him on the flood situation in the state.

He sought additional NDRF troops from the union home ministry for flood relief operations in the flood-hit state.

The Tripura chief minister also visited the worst flood-hit parts in Agartala and interacted with affected people in relief camps.

According to reports, the Tripura government set up a total of 331 relief camps, where 34,100 people from 6259 families have taken shelter.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a red alert for Tripura West, Khowai and Sepahijala districts, issuing warnings of heavy rainfall.
