Tripura farmers receive Rs 900 crore under PM-Kisan scheme
Agartala: Nearly 2.5 lakh farmers in Tripura have received a cumulative Rs 900 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme since its launch, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath said on Thursday.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the state-level orange festival, Nath said the 21st instalment of the scheme was recently disbursed to beneficiaries across the state. “A total of Rs 900 crore has been transferred directly to the bank accounts of 2.5 lakh farmers in Tripura since the scheme began,” he said.
The minister said agriculture remains the backbone of the state’s economy, contributing 46 per cent of total revenue. “Agriculture is our primary sector. Tourism and business jointly contribute 41 per cent, and the remaining 13 per cent is generated from industries. This is why agriculture, power generation, and forests remain our core focus areas,” he added.
Highlighting developments in the farm sector, Nath said Tripura’s farmers are producing high-quality oranges, citrus fruits, onions, and apical root-cutting varieties of potato.
He said orange cultivation has significantly expanded across districts in recent years.
Nath also said Tripura has registered notable progress in meeting sustainable development goals.
“We have surpassed 17 states in SDG performance. In seven years of BJP governance in this small state, the results of our efforts are being nationally recognised. NITI Aayog has also appreciated the state’s achievements,” he said.
