Tripura CPIM files FIR against BJP leader over alleged 'peel off skin' threat
Guwahati: Tripura CPIM on Saturday filed an FIR against BJP leader Tinkubrata Das of Barjala Mandal for allegedly making threatening remarks against party workers.
A video circulating on social media reportedly showed Das warning CPIM workers that he would “peel off their skin” if they did not correct their mistakes.
The remarks were said to have been made during celebrations following the NDA’s victory in the Bihar Assembly elections.
Two days after the incident, a CPIM delegation led by Sadar Division Secretary Amal Chakraborty submitted the complaint at the West Agartala Police Station.
Barjala MLA Sudip Sarkar was also present.
Speaking to reporters, Chakraborty said the Bihar election outcome was a part of normal political processes, but an unusual situation arose in Tripura, where alleged violence and intimidation occurred involving certain BJP workers.
He claimed that party offices were set on fire, motorcycles were damaged, and fishery ponds were poisoned, resulting in financial losses for CPIM supporters.
Commenting on the FIR, Chakraborty said the BJP leader’s remarks indicated a breakdown of law and order.
He added that while people were being arrested for criticising the Chief Minister, a member of the ruling party appeared to be issuing threats publicly.
He expressed hope that the administration would investigate the matter impartially.
