Tripura Congress demands compensation, central aid for flood victims
Agartala: In light of the devastating floods that have ravaged Tripura, Congress leader Asish Kumar Saha on Saturday urged the state governor for compensation and aid for the victims.
In a letter to Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, the Congress called for immediate action to support affected families.
Saha called for adequate compensation for flood victims and recommended the formation of an all-party delegation to approach the Central Government for substantial assistance in relief, rehabilitation, and rebuilding efforts.

The floods, which submerged large agricultural fields and fishery ponds, have obliterated local economies dependent on agriculture, livestock, and pisciculture.
He added, "For those who relied on livestock and fishing for their livelihoods, the flood was a bolt from the blue. Their entire economic sustenance drowned in front of them."
He added, "The situation escalated so quickly that people couldn't save even their last belongings."
Both rural and urban areas remain heavily affected, with clean drinking water and sanitation facilities in short supply, posing serious health risks. Saha emphasized the urgent need for food, clothing, and medical aid to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases.
The Congress leader further expressed confidence that the Union Government would allocate relief funds and urged the Governor to ensure a transparent assessment of the damage to individual families, free from political bias or discrimination.
Additionally, Saha called on the Governor to form all-party committees at various administrative levels to oversee the relief efforts, ensuring accountability and transparency.
He assured the Governor that his party would extend full cooperation during this critical period when the people of Tripura are experiencing profound loss and trauma.
"The mental and emotional suffering of the people is immense, and it is our duty to stand united to restore their lives and livelihoods," Saha added.
