Agartala: Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday condemned the violence that occurred at Khumulwng, stating that the incident reflected a “culture of arson, terror and political intimidation.”

He said the Bharatiya Janata Party does not accept such methods and that appropriate action would be taken.

Saha visited the houses of BJP workers that were vandalised on Thursday, reportedly by supporters of the Tipra Motha Party at the headquarters of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.

He interacted with affected families and assessed the damage.

The Chief Minister noted that decades of Communist rule in Tripura, West Bengal, and Kerala had influenced the political environment, and added that although the CPI(M) no longer holds power in Tripura and West Bengal, elements of its political culture continue to exist.

He appealed to people to resolve differences peacefully.

Describing the condition of one affected family, Saha said a woman was injured during the attack and that their belongings, including jewellery and cash, were taken.

Furniture and appliances, including a refrigerator, were reportedly damaged, and the household was ransacked.

He also mentioned that a BJP office in the area had been damaged earlier and said the state government would ensure that the police carried out their duties.

Saha added that similar incidents had been observed in other states and urged people to reject violence in politics.

BJP general secretary Bipin Debbarma, mandal presidents, and other leaders accompanied the Chief Minister during his visit.
