Tripura civil service body chief booked for breach of minister’s security in Agartala
Agartala: Tripura Police on Monday registered a case against Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) Chairman Colonel Kush Kumar Sharma (retd) and his son Meghasis Sharma for allegedly creating a ruckus and breaching the security protocol of a minister at a private hotel here, officials said.
The incident occurred late Sunday night after a government programme at the hotel, where Power Minister Sushanta Chowdhury was presiding over an official session.
According to police, Colonel Sharma’s vehicle was parked at the hotel entrance, obstructing the movement of the minister’s convoy as the programme concluded.
Security personnel attached to the minister requested that the vehicle be moved to facilitate the convoy’s departure. The request was allegedly refused. Subsequently, the minister himself approached the retired army officer and politely requested him to clear the passage, officials said.
Eyewitnesses alleged that Colonel Sharma lost his temper during the interaction, used abusive language against the minister and made inappropriate gestures. The situation escalated when the minister’s personal security guards intervened, leading to a scuffle. One of the guards was reportedly assaulted during the altercation.
Following the incident, a police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police (West Tripura) Dhurba Nath rushed to the spot and detained Colonel Sharma and his son. They were taken to IGM Hospital here for medical examination.
Police sources said the medical report confirmed the presence of alcohol in Colonel Sharma’s blood sample at the time of the incident. A case has been registered against both accused under relevant provisions of law.
Both Colonel Sharma and his son were later released on bail, officials said, adding that further legal proceedings would continue in accordance with due process.
Colonel Kush Kumar Sharma was appointed Chairman of the Tripura Public Service Commission in July 2023. He served in the Indian Army for over 30 years before assuming the constitutional post.
