Tripura cabinet approves two new state universities, including first technical, women’s universities

Agartala: The Tripura State Council of Ministers on Tuesday approved the creation of two new state universities.

The decision was approved during a meeting of the State Cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Manik Saha, Tripura Cabinet Spokesperson and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said.

With this addition, the total number of state-run universities in Tripura will be three. Maharaja Bir Bikram University is currently the only state-run university in the state.

Speaking to media persons at the Civil Secretariat, Chowdhury said, “The State Council of Ministers has approved the proposal of setting up Tripura's first Technical University. It has been decided that Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) will be upgraded to the state's first technical university. All the polytechnic colleges of the state will be governed by it once all the procedures are over.”

He also said that the Women's College located in Agartala shall be upgraded to Women’s University.

“The cabinet has approved the upgradation of Women's College located in Agartala into Women’s University. This is Tripura’s first of its kind institution,” he explained.

Apart from that, the cabinet has also approved the creation and filling up of 385 posts in different government departments.

Under the Co-operative Department, 97 posts of Auditor, Investigator, and Statistical Investigator will be filled through JRBT. As decided by the Council of Ministers, 28 Supervisors under ICDS projects will be recruited through the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC).

The Cabinet also approved the creation and filling up of 14 new technical posts of Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, and Public Health Engineers under the Urban Development Department,” Chowdhury said. “The Council of Ministers next decided to engage 8 faculty members and supporting staff under the Tripura Film & Television Institute,” he pointed out.

The other important posts which were approved include: Associate Prof (Screen Acting), Editor cum Demonstrator, Senior Technical Officer (Maintenance and IT), Attendant for Editing Media Lab, Attendant for Screen Acting, Sound Recording and Mixing Engineer, Associate Prof (Film and Video Editing), and Academic Coordinator.

Under the Social Welfare Department, 119 new Anganwadi Centres will be opened.

The cabinet also approved the creation and filling up of 119 posts of Anganwadi Workers and 119 posts of Anganwadi Helpers, he added.
