AGARTALA: Tripura chief minister Manik Saha announced that the central government has allocated a sum of Rs 100 crore for surrendered militants of the Nationalist Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), a proscribed group known for operating in hilly regions of Bangladesh.

Saha explained during a public gathering in Gabordi, West Tripura district, that the central government has approved this allocation under the Special Economic Development Package for Indigenous People of Tripura, aimed at facilitating the integration of former NLFT members into society and away from violence.

The funds will be directed towards various support programs, such as skill development training, education, and employment opportunities, emphasizing the government's commitment to a comprehensive approach to conflict resolution, centered on rehabilitation and reintegration.

Tripura will go to polls in two phases on April 19 and 26.

The state has two Lok Sabha seats: Tripura West and Tripura East, both of which are held by the BJP.
