Manoj Kumar appointed Tripura's new State Election Commissioner
Agartala: The Government of Tripura has appointed Manoj Kumar, IAS (Retd.), as the new State Election Commissioner, according to an official notification issued by the General Administration (AR) Department.
The appointment follows the completion of the tenure of Saradindu Chaudhury, IAS (Retd.), who had been serving as the State Election Commissioner since his appointment on 14 November 2023 under the Tripura Panchayats (Constitution of State Panchayat Election Commission) Rules, 1993.
The notification states that the Governor of Tripura, acting on the recommendation of the State Government and in exercise of powers under Section 176(1) of the Tripura Panchayats Act, 1993 read with relevant provisions of the Tripura Panchayats (Constitution of State Panchayat Election Commission) Rules, has appointed Manoj Kumar as the next State Election Commissioner.
The terms and conditions of service for the newly appointed Commissioner will be governed by Rule 4 of the Tripura Panchayats (Constitution of State Panchayat Election Commission) Rules, 1993, along with the provisions introduced through the Third Amendment Rules of 2006 and further instructions issued via a government memo dated 21 December 2015.
The notification further clarifies that the appointment comes into force with immediate effect.
