Agartala: Tripura is reeling from the aftermath of a cyclonic storm accompanied by gusty winds that struck the state, leaving a trail of destruction with over 4585 houses damaged, according to a report from the State Emergency Operation Centre.

South Tripura and Sepahijala District bore the brunt of the calamity.

The impact of the cyclone destroyed 23 houses, while 215 houses suffered severe damage, and 4345 houses were partially damaged across the state.

In Unakoti District, 40 houses were levelled, and Sepahijala District witnessed damage to 2881 houses. Moreover, 168 houses were affected in the Dhalai district, 139 in the West District, 95 in Khowai, 51 in Gomati, and 1211 in the South district.

An official from the State Emergency Operation Centre disclosed that an initial financial assistance of Rs 1.10 lakh has been disbursed. Despite the devastation, the official reassured that all rivers in the state are currently flowing below flood levels.

The Meteorological Department has issued warnings of further adverse weather conditions, forecasting light to moderate rain and thundershowers across all districts of Tripura. Additionally, there is a cautionary alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph, likely to affect isolated areas in the state.
