BJP claims Tipra Motha exit from district council certain before 2026, announces mega joining rally
Agartala: Tripura BJP Janajati Morcha leader and BJP state secretary Bipin Debbarma claimed that the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) is losing strength. He said its exit from the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in 2026 is certain.
Debbarma made the statement at a press conference in Agartala. BJP Vice President Bimal Chakma attended the event.
He said the weakening position of TMP has triggered recent attacks on BJP workers. He accused Tipra Motha workers of targeting BJP members repeatedly.
Debbarma announced a mega joining rally on December 13 in front of Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala. The BJP Janajati Morcha is organising the event.
He said thousands of tribal people from different districts will join the BJP. Also claimed more than 5,000 tribal people from almost every district will attend.
He said the party has appointed observers in each mandal to ensure smooth conduct of the programme.
Debbarma said the event will show that the tribal community now considers the BJP a reliable political force in Tripura.
Responding to queries, he alleged that TMP workers have attacked BJP members. He said such actions will not help the party stay in power.
“We are performing our role as the opposition in the district council. They are in alliance with us but they stop our programmes. We never stop them from holding rallies or meetings. This is a democracy,” he said.
He claimed TMP fears defeat in the 2026 council elections. He said frustration has led to violence and political pressure tactics.
Debbarma said the popularity of Tipra Motha is declining fast. He alleged the party is using violence to survive politically and added that the party will continue its political fight through democratic means.
