Agartala: The Border Security Force (BSF) found the body of a teenage girl along the India-Bangladesh border in northern Tripura on Monday.

The deceased, believed to be around 16 years old, was found near the Latiapura border outpost in Kailashahar, Unakoti district.

Preliminary investigations suggest the girl was a Bangladeshi national from the Juri area under Kulaura police station in Moulvibazar district.

She was spotted approximately 50 meters outside the border fence, close to the zero point between the two countries.

Upon finding the body, BSF personnel from the 199 Battalion notified the Irani police station in Kailashahar.

Senior police officers accompanied by forensic experts visited the scene and, in the presence of a Magistrate, recovered the body for a post-mortem examination at the Kailashahar district hospital.

While the exact circumstances surrounding the girl's death are still under investigation, some media reports claim she was shot by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) troops while attempting to illegally enter Indian territory.

In recent months, Tripura has seen a surge in illegal border crossings from Bangladesh. Over 300 Bangladeshi nationals have been apprehended by various security agencies, including the BSF, in the state.

The BSF is currently coordinating with its Bangladeshi counterparts to gather more information about the incident and to confirm the identity of the deceased.
