Agartala: The police in Tripura seized a large quantity of alleged contraband valued at over Rs 50 lakh and arrested two individuals in Khowai District on Thursday.

Teliamura Sub-divisional Police Officer, Panna Lal Sen stated that the three were nabbed based on a tip-off.

The police had information about a truck transporting a significant haul of suspected narcotics disguised as stone chips, heading towards Khowai District.

The police official said that acting on the intelligence, security forces were deployed, and checkpoints were established.

"When the suspected truck reached Mungiakami, we detained it for inspection", Sen said.

As the police unloaded the stone chips, they found 72 sacks containing 9,900 bottles of Eskuf and Phensedyl.

These are contraband cough syrups, often used for substance abuse and addiction.

The market value of the seized drugs is estimated at approximately Rs 50 lakh.

"Two suspects have been arrested in connection with this operation," Sen stated.
