Tripura: TSR jawan caught while trying to smuggle in beedis for prisoners
Guwahati: A Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan was caught while attempting to smuggle in several packets of beedis into the Tripura Central Correctional Home located at Bishalgarh in Sepahijala district.
The TSR jawan - Anjan Das – was caught by the jail authorities on Wednesday while he was trying to smuggle in around 25-30 packets of beedis purportedly to be sold to the prisoners lodged in the jail.
Das was later closed to the headquarters of the TSR’s 11th Battalion located at Pathaliaghat in West Tripura district.
The jail authorities had been monitoring Das’s movements and keeping an eye on his activities after multiple complaints were received against him.

He was accused of supplying contraband items to the prisoners taking advantage of his position.
A video clip of Das being searched by the jail authorities resulting in the recovery of the beedi packets from his possession soon went viral on various social media platforms prompting the authorities to initiate an internal inquiry into the matter.
The deputy superintendent of Tripura Central Correctional Home has been investigating to ascertain the avenues on the video getting leaked.
Meanwhile, those responsible for widespread circulation of the video have been served show-cause notices.
