Guwahati: Tripura transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday said the state government is contemplating to introduce app-based cab services like Ola and Uber to and from the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in state capital Agartala.

The Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, the lone airport in Tripura, currently has prepaid taxi and three-wheeler services for the incoming and outgoing passengers.

With the introduction of the app-based cab services, travel of passengers would be comfortable and much cheaper as compared to the prepaid cabs.

The airport records a footfall of more than 4,000 passengers every day.

The state government is planning to introduce app-based cab services as the prepaid taxis and three-wheelers could not provide services at par with Ola and Uber.

The minister, however, assured that business of the existing facilities would not be hampered in any way.

He said that almost all the airports, except the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, in the country have app-based cab services but it will be soon introduced for the convenience of the passengers.
