Agartala: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Tripura has called for a conducive environment and adequate security measures ahead of the upcoming Panchayat elections, citing alleged intimidation and attacks by BJP workers.

In a letter to the Tripura State Election Commission, the CPIM expressed concerns over threats from BJP activists aimed at disrupting the electoral process.

The CPIM claimed that during the previous Panchayat elections in 2019, BJP supporters obstructed opposition parties from submitting nomination forms, leading to uncontested victories in over 90% of seats.

They accused local police and election officials of leniency towards such actions instead of taking decisive legal action against the perpetrators.

Highlighting recent incidents of attacks on CPIM leaders and party offices allegedly by BJP-backed groups, the CPIM demanded strict measures to ensure a fair electoral environment.

They called for online submission of nomination papers to counter potential blockades at Panchayat offices, and urged for enhanced security, especially in areas perceived as vulnerable.

The CPIM urged the State Election Commissioner to oversee the restoration of conditions conducive to free and fair elections across Tripura, emphasizing the need for sufficient deployment of paramilitary forces to guarantee unrestricted campaigning for all political parties involved.
