Tripura MLA urges Bangladesh interim govt to ensure security for minorities
Agartala: Concerned about reported atrocities against minority Hindus, Tripura's Tipra Motha Party MLA Ranjit Debbarma has sent a letter to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, requesting urgent measures to enhance security for religious minorities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region of Bangladesh.
In his letter, Debbarma highlighted the alarming incidents of violence against Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians, including physical assaults, murder, arson, and looting.
He described these acts as deeply distressing and indicative of a broader pattern of insecurity faced by religious minorities across Bangladesh.

Debbarma also noted that many victims are left without food, shelter, or basic necessities amid the ongoing violence.
Debbarma condemned the recent destruction of the historic Bir Chandra Public Library in Kandirpar, Comilla, Bangladesh. The library, established by the Late Maharaja Bir Chandra Manikya of the erstwhile Tripura Kingdom, was severely damaged, with precious books, idols, and artefacts being looted and destroyed.
He termed this incident as a significant affront to Bangladesh's cultural heritage.

The MLA also reported that numerous displaced individuals from the Chittagong Hill Tracts and other affected areas are currently seeking refuge along the international borders of Tripura, Meghalaya, Assam, Mizoram, and West Bengal, facing severe hardships and insecurity.
He urged the Bangladesh Interim Government to prioritize the protection of these communities to prevent further escalation of violence and potential cross-border impacts.
Debbarma's letter emphasized the urgent need for enhanced security measures in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, as well as the Habiganj and Maulavibazar districts, where violence against Indigenous and religious minorities has been reported.
He called for immediate action to safeguard these vulnerable populations and mitigate the risk of further violence.
