Tripura: Man kills wife, mother-in-law over social media post

Guwahati: A 51-year-old man, estranged from his wife for more than a year, allegedly killed her and his mother-in-law in West district of Tripura over a social media post.

The accused, a resident of Sepahijala district’s Madhupur has been arrested.

While the man had been living with his two sons in Madhupur, his wife, who had filed for divorce, had been staying with her mother in West Tripura district’s Netajinagar for the past 18 months.

His wife on Sunday shared her photographs on social media taken during the Durga Puja celebrations with two of her male friends.

Upon seeing the photographs of his wife with two men, he became furious and hatched a plan to kill her.

When his wife and her mother were on their way home, he attacked them with a sharp object killing the mother-daughter duo on the spot.

A police team soon arrived at the spot and found the bodies lying in a pool of blood.

The accused was arrested within an hour of the crime.

Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation and the accused will be produced before a court soon.
