AGARTALA: The Left Front in Tripura has requested the State Election Commissioner (SEC) to ensure the participation of all its allied parties in upcoming all party meetings.

The Tripura Left Front has stated that there is a need for inclusive democratic processes during the ongoing Panchayat elections.

In a letter addressed to the Tripura SEC, Left Front convener Narayan Kar highlighted the significant role played by various Left Front wings, including RSP, Forward Bloc, CPI, and CPI-MI, in the state’s three-tier Panchayat system.

The letter highlighted the active participation and successes of these parties in recent elections.

Expressing disappointment over recent ‘exclusions’, Kar pointed out instances where representatives of these parties were not invited to crucial all party meetings convened by the Tripura SEC.

The letter stressed the importance of restoring a congenial atmosphere in Tripura and strengthening democracy through the involvement of all political stakeholders.

“It is unfortunate that despite our repeated requests and the democratic mandate we represent at the grassroots, our allied parties were excluded from the recent all party meeting held on July 4, 2024,” read an excerpt from Kar’s letter.

“To foster a truly inclusive electoral process and to uphold the principles of democracy, we urge the SEC to ensure the participation of all stakeholders in future all party meetings.”

Furthermore, the Tripura Left Front leader called upon the SEC to issue directives to all returning officers at the block and district levels to invite representatives of RSP, Forward Bloc, CPI, and CPI-MI to all forthcoming all party meetings without fail.

The Tripura Left Front’s appeal comes amid preparations for the upcoming Panchayat elections, stating their commitment to ensuring fair representation and transparency in the electoral process.
