Agartala: The Tripura State Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind has strongly condemned the reported atrocities against minority Hindus in Bangladesh and has called for enhanced security measures to protect these communities.

In a press statement, Mufti Tayebur Rahman, President of the Tripura State Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind, expressed concern over the situation in Bangladesh following the departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5, 2024.

He highlighted reports of attacks on minority communities, particularly Hindus, as well as incidents of violence that allegedly included the brutal killing of police personnel and journalists.

“Reports indicate that various locations in Bangladesh have witnessed looting and arson, with minority Hindus being targeted. There have also been accounts of attacks on temples. However, it is heartening to note that many members of the Muslim majority, including madrassa students, have come forward to protect minority homes and religious sites", he said.

Rahman added, "Despite these efforts, sporadic allegations of violence against minority Hindus by certain vested interests continue to surface in the media. We unequivocally condemn all such incidents and demand that the security of minority Hindus in Bangladesh be ensured. As Muslims, it is our responsibility to stand with our neighbours in both their joys and their sorrows, and to safeguard their rights.”

He further appealed to all sections of society, including the Muslim community in Bangladesh, to prioritize the safety and rights of minorities.

“We urge that minority citizens in Bangladesh be safeguarded from any form of religious discrimination or violence. Similarly, we demand the protection of minorities around the world", Rahman added.
