Agartala: The Tripura high court has directed the state’s health and education departments, along with the central government, to submit a comprehensive report within two weeks on their strategies to address the surge in HIV/AIDS cases in Tripura.

The directive came after Justice T Amarnath Goud of the Tripura high court expressed concern over the significant rise in HIV/AIDS cases, particularly among students, and the increase in mortality rates in Tripura.

Justice Goud’s letter to Tripura high court chief justice Aparesh Kumar Singh highlighted the urgency of the situation.

In response, the Tripura high court’s division bench, led by chief justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice Arindam Lodh, issued notices to the secretary of health and family welfare, the secretary of the education department, and the government of India.

The court has sought detailed reports on the current measures in place and additional steps required to effectively combat the rising HIV/AIDS prevalence in Tripura.

Government counsel KN Bhattacharya informed the media that the increase in reported HIV/AIDS cases in Tripura is partly attributed to a rise in testing, which has led to higher case numbers being documented.
