AGARTALA:  Security agencies detained five foreign nationals, including three Rohingya and two Bangladeshi individuals, at the Agartala Railway Station in Tripura.

The group was reportedly en route to Hyderabad and Mumbai.

Officer-in-Charge of the Government Railway Police (GRP), Tapas Das, said that the operation was based on a tip-off received late Monday night, indicating that a group of Rohingya and Bangladeshi nationals would attempt to leave the state.

“In coordination with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Border Security Force (BSF), our personnel, disguised in civilian attire, positioned themselves at the station. When the suspects arrived, we apprehended all five", Das said.

He added, "Initially, they claimed to be Indian nationals, but during interrogation, they confessed to their true identities—three being Rohingya and two Bangladeshi nationals who had entered India illegally.”

Further, he disclosed that the Rohingya were planning to travel to Hyderabad, while the Bangladeshis were headed for Mumbai. Security forces also seized Bangladeshi currency, various documents, and mobile phones from the detainees.

The individuals are set to be presented before the court, where authorities will seek police custody for further investigation, according to Das.
