Tripura CPIM alleges vandalism of campaign materials, meets DEO

Agartala: Tripura’s CPIM, led by former MP Shankar Prasad Dutta has raised serious concerns about alleged campaign vandalism in the 7-Ramnagar assembly constituency, set for a by-poll on April 19.

Dutta squarely blames the ruling BJP for orchestrating the destruction of campaign materials across 7-Ramnagar assembly constituencies.

Dutta has highlighted instances where campaign decorations were systematically removed and discarded, despite formal complaints lodged with the authorities.

He also cited an incident in which two CPIM workers were reportedly attacked by individuals linked to the ruling party in Jirania Bazar in West District.

Despite filing a complaint with the Jiraniya police station, no action has been taken.

Moreover, Dutta criticized the presence of pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP candidate Mayor Dipak Majumder in government spaces within 7-Ramnagar, alleging this violates election guidelines and aims to intimidate voters.

Expressing concerns over the integrity of the upcoming by-elections and the impending Lok Sabha elections in the state, Dutta claimed that 35 out of 49 booths in the seven Ramnagar assembly constituencies have been instructed to enhance awareness efforts.

Responding to these allegations, the Returning Officer, Dr. Vishal Kumar, has assured that the matter will be thoroughly investigated.

A CPIM delegation, including Sadar District Committee Secretary Subhashish Ganguly, emphasized the necessity for strict enforcement of election rules and the deployment of paramilitary forces to ensure peaceful voting.
