Tripura CM announces Rs 242.55 crore for protest-affected Gandatwisa
Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced a comprehensive relief and development package worth over Rs 242.55 crore for the Gandatwisa sub-division in the Dhalai District.
This announcement followed a visit to the area, where Saha met with the victims and family members of Parameswar Reang, who tragically passed away after an incident during an Ananda Mela on July 7.
Saha, accompanied by Chief Secretary JK Sinha, DGP Amitabh Ranjan, DGP (Int) Anurag, Home Secretary Pradip Chakraborty, and other officials, including Dhalai District Magistrate Saju Vaheed and SP Avinash Rai, visited various locations in Gandatwisa.

They assessed the situation following protests that erupted after Parameswar Reang’s death on July 12, which led to several houses being attacked and people seeking shelter in government-arranged relief camps.
During a press conference, Saha expressed his condolences and detailed the government's response. “It is a truly tragic event, and we have taken immediate steps to assist the victims and the family of the deceased," he said.

The government provided an initial financial assistance of Rs 6 lakh to Reang's family and decided to grant an additional Rs 4 lakh.
The state government also committed to helping the 101 families severely affected by the unrest. Rs 95,000 has already been transferred to their accounts, with an additional Rs 2.05 lakh to be provided.
Families with severely damaged property received Rs 50,000, with a further Rs 1 lakh to be given, while those with partially damaged property were provided Rs 25,000, and will receive an additional Rs 25,000.
Overall, 145 families were affected, with Rs 1.14 crore already disbursed and an additional Rs 2.30 crore to follow.
Saha outlined plans for the development of Gandatwisa, including the construction of Narayanpur Market, the improvement of the Gandatwisa Ambassa road (51 km in length), and the development of cage farming for fisheries at Dombur Lake.
These initiatives are part of a broader development plan encompassing 17 projects, amounting to Rs 239 crore.
Emphasizing the necessity of peace for development, Saha concluded, "We are committed to the vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, and Sabka Vishwas' as laid out by PM Modi. We will take strict actions against those who attempt to disrupt the peace in the state."
