Tripura: BSF constable assaulted, weapons snatched at Indo-Bangladesh border

Agartala: A Border Security Force (BSF) constable, identified as was allegedly attacked by a large group of people from Bangladesh while on duty at Gate No 196 near Kalamchera in Sonamura Sub-division, Tripura.

The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 1:30 pm.

According to the BSF report, the constable identified as Bhole was operating the border fence gate when a large group from Bangladesh approached the gate, allegedly with the intention of smuggling sugar.

They reportedly used abusive language and gestures towards Bhole.

In an attempt to disperse the group and prevent smuggling, he reportedly entered the area beyond the fence gate.

The group then allegedly surrounded and assaulted him, trying to pull him towards the Bangladesh side.

During the altercation, the constable's service weapon and radio were snatched.

Though he managed to escape, he sustained injuries from being struck with bamboo sticks and an iron rod.

Following the incident, a commandant-level flag meeting was held with Bangladeshi counterparts.

However, both the stolen weapon and radio were returned to the BSF during the meeting.
