Agartala: Rajib Bhattacharjee, President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura, has been elected as the state's sole representative in the Rajya Sabha, securing 47 votes out of 57.

Bhattacharjee's win was widely anticipated, with Chief Minister Manik Saha expressing confidence in his victory earlier in the day.

Bhattacharjee after being named the new Rajya Sabha MP, expressed his gratitude to the MLAs who supported his candidacy, including those from the BJP, IPFT, and Tipra Motha.

He also acknowledged the trust placed in him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President JP Nadda.

Bhattacharjee further stated that his full commitment is to Tripura's development, promising to raise critical issues concerning the state's progress in Parliament.

"My focus will be on ensuring the development of Tripura. I am dedicated to addressing the challenges faced by the people and will work closely with both the state and central governments," he said.

The election for the Rajya Sabha seat in Tripura was held today, with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) fielding former MLA Sudhan Das as their candidate.
