Tripura: Attacks on minority community pre-planned, says Manik Sarkar
Agartala: Former Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Sarkar claimed that the recent attacks on minority Muslims in Jirania Sub-division, under West District, were pre-planned and orchestrated to create division among people on religious lines.
Earlier on August 26 a group of miscreants launched an attack on minorities following the vandalisation of an idol of Goddes Kali at Durga Nagar village under Jirania Sub-division of West District
On Thursday, Sarkar, along with CPI(M) leaders including Pabitra Kar, Manik Dey, and Radha Charan Debbarma, visited the area and spoke with the victims.

“When the incident had taken place on that night only we have received the information. We wanted to visit the area the next day but Tripura Police didn’t allow us stating that as the situation is not good", Sarkar told the media.
He added that the police also claimed to have clamped section 144 adding that their visit may turn the situation worse.

"Police sought cooperation so we did. After three attempts we came here and visited the area”, said Sarkar.
Sarkar alleged that, according to the homeowners, the attack was premeditated.
He added, "What we observed was that specific individuals and their family members were targeted. First, they looted the house, then vandalised it, and set it on fire. Children were also attacked, but the mothers somehow managed to save them."
"They pleaded with the police for help, but the police told them to hide. However, the police failed to take any preventive steps. This is a clear indication that the attack was orchestrated to create a religious divide. These are not my words but what the victims and the people have told us," he claimed.
