AGARTALA: Tripura Congress MLA and Former Minister Sudip Roy Barman has appealed to Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder to allow unapproved vendors to set up roadside stalls for one week following Durga Puja.

This plea comes after the AMC announced that vendors without official approval would be prohibited from operating stalls during the festival.

In his letter to the Mayor, Roy Barman highlighted the severe impact of recent floods on the state, noting widespread suffering and financial hardship.

"The recent calamity has caused significant distress across the state, affecting every district, including our capital. Many families in Agartala are enduring similar difficulties due to the floods," he stated.

The MLA expressed disappointment over the Mayor's recent announcement that non-recognized vendors would not be permitted to set up stalls, citing concerns about pedestrian and vehicle movement.

He urged the Mayor to reconsider this decision in light of the extreme hardships faced by many families.

During Durga Puja, numerous families rely on selling retail items from these stalls for their livelihood.

"Given the significant financial losses they have incurred due to the floods, I request that you permit these vendors to operate on the roadside for at least one week after Dashami," Roy Barman wrote, hoping the Mayor would consider his request amid the ongoing crisis.
