Agartala: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) during a joint operation apprehended five foreign nationals, including a woman, at the Agartala railway station in Tripura late Saturday night.

Among these five, one is a Bangladeshi national and the other four are Rohingyas.

Officer in-charge of GRP at Agartala railway station Tapas Das on Sunday said the five individuals were apprehended after they entered India through the porous India-Bangladesh international border in Tripura illegally.

The apprehended Bangladeshi national has been identified as Sukur Ali, a resident of the neighbouring country’s Comilla district.

On the other hand, the Rohingyas have been identified as Amir Haqil, Yasmin Akhtar, Md Tareq and Md Ulla.

OC Das said the quintet admitted to have sneaked into Indian soil in Tripura illegally and were likely to board trains to major cities in India.

“During initial interrogation the five admitted that they had crossed the international border without valid documents and were heading to places like Chennai, Gujarat and Hyderabad,” he said.

A case has been registered in this regard and the apprehended individuals were produced before a court for further legal proceedings.
