Tripura: 11 Bangladeshi nationals, 3 Indian touts held in Agartala

Agartala: The Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducting a joint operation apprehended 14 individuals, including 11 Bangladeshi nationals and three Indian touts, at the Agartala railway station late Saturday night.

Officer in-charge of GRP at Agartala railway station Tapas Das said the operation was carried out on the basis of source information.

“A tip-off was received that a group of Bangladeshi nationals who entered India illegally may board a train from the railway station. Accordingly, our personnel were put on an alert,” he said.

Das said a total of 14 individuals were nabbed out of which 11 are Bangladeshi nationals and three alleged Indian touts.

“We detained 14 individuals at the railway station. Among them, 11 are Bangladeshi nationals who illegally entered Tripura, intending to travel to Gujarat and Tamil Nadu in search of work. Three Indian touts who facilitated their movement have been arrested,” he added.

A number of mobile phones and Indian as well as Bangladeshi currencies were recovered from the possession of the apprehended individuals.

As per preliminary questioning, the Bangladeshi nationals hailing from Khagrachari and Narail districts, admitted to have entered India in search of job opportunities. 

One of the three Indian touts is reportedly a resident of Silchar in Cachar district of Assam. 

All the 14 individuals were later produced before the court with the police seeking their custody for further interrogation.
