The Toyota Hilux pickup truck has received a third facelift in Australia and Indonesia, likely serving as the final swansong before an all-new model arrives next year.

This update brings subtle cosmetic changes, a new mild-hybrid system for the diesel engine, and some interior feature additions.

Under the hood, the biggest news is the addition of 48V mild-hybrid technology to the 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine.

This system, comprising an electric motor generator, lithium battery, and DC-to-DC converter, promises a 6-10% improvement in fuel efficiency, along with increased refinement and reduced noise levels. Power output remains unchanged at 204hp and 500Nm.

While mild-hybrid tech steals the show, the facelift also introduces minor cosmetic updates.

The hexagonal grille receives a trim-dependent refresh, and the front bumper has been redesigned for a more muscular appearance. Higher-spec trims gain gloss black accents on various elements, along with tinted LED headlamps.

Inside, the Hilux benefits from additional standard features like front and rear parking sensors. Higher-end variants get further pampering with dual-zone climate control, a wireless charging pad, rear USB-C ports, and auto up/down windows. However, the overall interior layout remains unchanged.

Although unlikely to receive the exact cosmetic and feature upgrades, the Indian market can expect the introduction of the mild-hybrid system for the diesel engine, potentially applied to both the Hilux and Fortuner models.
