Imphal: In the aftermath of killer Cyclone Remal, a total of four persons including two women lost their lives and five persons including two minors got injuries at different districts in Manipur as of Thursday, officials said.

Two women including an octogenarian were swept away by the strong current of river water and lost their lives in different districts in the state.

Chanuka Mishra, 61, wife of Prasad Mishra, a resident of Kanglatombi in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district was swept away by the strong water current of the Sekmai river at around 7 am on Thursday and she lost her life, the officials said.

In another incident, an 81-year-old tribal was killed when she was dragged away in the strong water current at Senapati River.

Her body was recovered in a Karong village on Thursday.

Laishram Sanatomba, 66, a resident of Uchiwa village who was currently residing at a rented house in Sagolband of Imphal west district died of electrocution near the lamp post that was flooded with water at its ground level.

The incident happened at around 7 am on Thursday at Nepram Major Leikai in Imphal West district.

One tribal man lost his life and three others sustained injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in met an accident on the road partly flooded at Senapati district headquarters on Wednesday, officials said.

The injured were rushed to the Senapati district hospital for treatment.

On Tuesday, the first day of Cyclone Remal, two minors namely Soshine Kaping, 9, and Phameirin Kaping, 17, were injured in the landslide at Viewland Zone IV Ukhrul district headquarters when their house was engulfed in the landslide.

They were rushed to the nearby hospital for medical treatment.
